I Ching Hexagram 38
The hexagram 38 of the I Ching, Opposition, results from an incongruous union of the Fire and the Lake. Their movements have opposing trends since Fire goes upward while the Lake goes into depth. This opposition is due to the diverse nature of the elements involved, since Fire and Lake have their own characteristics which does not depend on the possibility of a joint work. However, there is nothing of entirely negative here but a special sort of community created by this opposition. This community is defined by its transitive character in which each element tends to discard the other to produce something specific, in accord with itself only.
