Lines

The most simple components of I Ching hexagrams are the two Yin and Yang lines. They are opposed poles which create a dynamic relationship, responsible for creating the different hexagrams.

Lines as trends

Lines are described by attributes which show two movements relatively opposed.

Yin line

ligne Yin
Stillness, earthly, hidden, passive...

Yang line

ligne Yang
movement, heavenly, bright, active...

These two poles are defined in their mutual relationship. The sense of light depends on darknes, as that of movement depends on stillness.

Therefore, these lines are not fixed poles and can be transformed in its opposite. This is what happens in the case of the "mobile" lines which are responsible for the transformation of the main hexagram in the perspective hexagram.
